Juvenes Translatores

Donderdag 24 november hebben maar liefst 30 leerlingen uit 5 VW0, DP1 en DP2 deelgenomen aan de Europese vertaalwedstrijd Juvenes Translatores. Het RLO was één van de geselecteerde scholen uit Nederland. Doel van deze wedstrijd is het leren van talen en vertalen te promoten en de belangrijke rol van vertalers in Europa te onderstrepen. Er kon vertaald worden in/naar alle officiële talen van de Europese Unie, deze keer vertaalden de leerlingen vanuit/naar het Nederlands, Frans, Spaans, Portugees, Italiaans en Engels. Nadat alle bronteksten uitgedeeld waren, werd er in opperste concentratie gewerkt aan de teksten die niet zo eenvoudig bleken en waar veel creativiteit van de vertalers gevraagd werd. De 4 officiële deelnemers maken kans op een glorieuze prijsuitreiking in Brussel!

This Thursday 24 November 30 students from 5VWO, DP1 and DP2 participated in the European Translation contest Juvenes Translatores. The RLO was one of the selected schools to participate in the Netherlands.  The objective of this contest is to stress the importance of learning languages and the important role translators play in the European Union. Participants could choose to translate from any official EU language into any other official EU language. This time the students translated in/to Dutch, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian and English. After distribution of the source texts, the participants worked in full concentration on the texts which proved to be sometimes tricky and required a lot of creativity and choice-making from the translators.  The 4 official candidates await, if they are successful, a prestigious award ceremony in Brussels!
