UCAS
Applying to British Universities via UCAS
Before you register with UCAS check that your personal e mail account is working properly and that your personal e mail address is appropriate. If your e mail address is something along the lines of sexkitten2008@hotmail.com or Ihateskool set up an e mail account with a more sober address, please.
- Go to www.ucas.co.uk
- Click on APPLY
- Click on Register / log in to use apply 2010
- Click on the register button
- Follow all the instructions to complete the registration. The buzzword for this year is RLO4EVER
- There are 3 applicant groups. If you are in the international section, apply through applicant group IBDP2010. If you are in the Dutch section of school your applicant group is TTO2010 if you have followed TTO or VWO2010 .
- You will need to give a password – make sure you write it down
You will be given a user name – please write this down too.
Once you have registered you will then need to log in – with your UCAS user name and password – so that you can start the application process.
Work through section by section, starting with the personal details section.
- For ‘residential category’ most of you will choose A ‘UK citizen / EU national’
- For fee code, most of you should select ’02, EU’
- Do make sure you agree to receive mailings from UCAS is one form or another. Living in the Netherlands the e mail option is probably the best.
- Use the disability / special needs section to mention things such as dyslexia.
- Education – fill in all schools attended with your current school ‘International School het Rijnlands Lyceum’ at the top.
- Fill in all subjects that you are taking in the diploma programme.
- Choices – if you are applying for medicine you may select up to 4 universities, for any other degree 5. Make sure you choose a range of unis which will make a range of offers. Be realistic about what you are capable of – use your final grades from Dp1 as a guide.
- It is a good idea to enter something in the employment section, even if it is a really menial job, or even a voluntary job.
Personal Statement – you attended the workshop and should have a pretty good idea by now! It is a good idea have your personal statement as a word document which you can cut and paste on to your UCAS application once it is perfect. Please do let me check your personal statement - e mail it to p.taylor@rijnlandslyceum-rlo.nl.
Good luck – and if you have any questions or need any advice sign up for an appointment with me.
Deadline 30 September for Oxbridge / Med School, everyone else 30 November.
